What is Corporate Geek?
In case you haven't figured it out from the contents of the site (if that's the case let me know, it means I'll have to improve it), Corporate Geek is a blog for sharing tips about project management and improving productivity at work, alongside practical advice for business communication and effective presentations. It is best consumed by project managers, team managers and people interested in how to improve communication in the business world and how to transform their presentations from boring and ineffective slides to story-telling tools.
When reading this blog, please keep in mind the fact that everything written here represents my personal opinion and not the one of my employer. The postings on this blog do not represent the positions, strategies or opinions of the company I work for.
Who is the Corporate Geek?
My real name is Ciprian Adrian Rusen and I am from Romania. Was born in 1982 and spent most of my childhood in a town called Busteni (literally means tree-logs in Romanian).
Apart from managing this blog and other web sites, I am also a Project Manager in the "IT" department of Procter & Gamble. If you want to know more about my professional life, you can always check my LinkedIn profile.
Why Corporate Geek?
That's because I have always considered myself a geek. By geek, I do not mean the traditional stereotype of the socially inept guy with odd hobbies.
The traits and definitions which I consider to be representative to why I consider myself a geek are:
- A person who is interested in technology, especially computing and new media;
- A person who has chosen concentration rather than conformity; one who passionately pursues skill and imagination, not mainstream social acceptance;
- A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. This could be due to the intensity, depth, or subject of their interest;
- Someone who is an enthusiast, often in things outside of the mainstream spectrum.
Corporate, because I live and work in a corporate world. Currently I work at Procter & Gamble. Previously I have worked with IBM and many of its corporate clients. I'm sure that, no matter how my professional life evolves, I will always work with corporations. Therefore, I'll always be the Corporate Geek.
Corporate Geek's Interests
My interests are rather varied and lie in: innovation in software & hardware, great presentations, project management, business communications and how to transform it into something more personal, multimedia learning, online marketing, digital photography, great stories and how to tell them using different media (books, games, movies, theater, music, web sites), blogging, music, how to design and be user friendly, how to lead by personal example, how to help others improve themselves, friends, wine and great food, learning something new every day, sharing my knowledge with others...
Corporate Geek's Web Projects
The web has been one of my passions since I've had the first contact with it. Since then, I have worked on a few web projects, with different degrees of success. If you want to know more about my web projects, check out this presentation called "Windows Vista and my LIFE outside Procter &Gamble". The presentation talks mostly about Windows Vista for Beginners - Windows Vista Tutorials and makes a few mentions to other past projects.
